The Parkersburg High School Class of 1967 is challenging other classes to raise money for Stadium Field renovations. The 1967 graduates will be presenting a check for $1,967 to the stadium committee at its meeting on Monday, said Linda Davis Nelson of Williamstown, vice president of the reunion committee. Nelson said the money being donated to rebuild Stadium Field was leftover from the Class of 1967's reunion last year and had been earmarked for the next reunion in four years. "We want our grandkids and great-grandkids to play at Stadium Field," Nelson said of her class' fundraising efforts. The 1967 class is asking other PHS classes to donate at least an amount of money representing their year of graduation, such as $1,967 for the Class of 1967. Other classes donating money to the stadium effort have been the Class of 1973, $417.75; 1952, $562, and 1943, $500, said Charlotte Potter, treasurer of the stadium committee. Potter is pleased with the number and amount of donations for the stadium arriving every day. "People are stepping up," she told me this week. A total of $131,000 in donations arrived in August and $31,000 for the first 10 days in September, she said. The PHS Alumni Association has contributed $10,000, while the PHS Foundation has given $20,000. Potter hopes her Class of 1956 will meet the challenge of the Class of 1967.
