PARKERSBURG - Rain did not slow down those looking to help the Latrobe Street Mission during a fundraiser party on Saturday.
The 14th Avenue Gospel Mission Church, located at 4124 14th Ave., in south Parkersburg, held the festivities from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, which included entertainment, activities and food.
"Our church decided to hold a benefit for the mission," said Pastor Tim Burch with 14th Avenue Gospel Mission Church. "This is our way of helping out."

The fundraiser filled the side parking lot of the church with food that included a pig roast and pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, snow cones, cotton candy, baked goods and more.
"All of the food was donated, so all of the money we make on the food, games and silent auction will go to help the mission," Burch added.
The south Parkersburg church partnered with Torch Baptist Church to sponsor the fundraising event.
Activities that accompanied the foods included a gospel sing, local musical groups, children's activities and a cornhole tournament.
Shad Martin, with the Latrobe Street Mission, said the money raised through the event will be used for the kitchen.
"We are feeding around 70 people every day and are in desperate need of funding for the project," he said.
"We already had churches send us checks for as much as $1,500 to help the mission," Burch said.
The mission, located at 1825 Latrobe St., provides emergency shelter for men, women and children, a kitchen, dining room facilities, showers and restrooms, longer term transitional housing of 12-18 months and a thrift shop. In its first few months in operation, the mission served more than 300 people through its emergency shelter and growing number of services, Martin said.
The mission opened in December with three people and grew to 95 people by the end of the first month, Martin added.
Anyone who wants to give to the mission is encouraged to send donations to 14th Avenue Gospel Mission Church, located at 4124 14th Ave., Parkersburg, with "Latrobe Street Mission" written in the memo line of the check.
"This is not about our church, it's about helping people," Burch said.
