WEST UNION - One woman was killed and three others were injured in an accident Wednesday on U.S. 50 in Doddridge County.
According to the West Virginia State Police, 30-year-old Mindy Weaver of Bridgeport died as a result of two-car accident near Smithburg.
The accident happened around 4:45 p.m. at the intersection of Long Run Road in Doddridge County. According to the release, Weaver was traveling westbound on U.S. 50 when she lost control of her vehicle, crossed the median and collided with a vehicle driven by David Naill, 43, of Westminster, Md.
Naill and his passenger, 43-year-old Karen Lemmert, also of Westminster, suffered critical injuries and were airlifted to the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. Both were listed in critical condition.
A female juvenile, traveling with Weaver also was transported to Ruby Memorial by helicopter, the release stated.
The incident is being investigated by the State Police's Doddridge County detachment. The cause of the crash was still under investigation by Trooper R.S. Curren.
The four-lane road was closed for about two hours. In addition to the state police, members of the Doddridge County Sheriff's Office, the West Virginia Division of Highways and numerous volunteer fire departments provided assistance.
Wednesday's accident marked the third fatality on U.S. 50 in less than a week. Last weekend, a Ritchie County woman and her daughter were killed near Ellenboro when a water truck struck their vehicle.
