VINCENT, Ohio -Ohio University's outdoor record in the women's discus throw is 165 feet, 6 inches.
Warren's 5-foot-11 Emma Ryan is hoping to get an opportunity to break Erica Ferri's 1998 mark someday after she attends OU next school semester.
On Monday in the Warrior gym, Ryan signed a national letter of intent to continue her education at Ohio and compete on the Bobcats' outdoor and indoor track and field squad.
Nick Pero is Ohio's throws coach, and Clay Calkins is the women's head track and field coach.
"I love the campus and coaches - and it's close to home" said Ryan, who is undecided on her major but leaning towards nursing.
Academically at Warren, Ryan owns a 3.5 GPA.
The Ohio Bobcats, an NCAA Division I school located in nearby Athens, are members of the Mid-American Conference. The green and white lady thinclads compete at the Goldsberry Track.
"We're very excited for Emma to be able to continue throwing and pursuing a college career," said Warren girls track and field coach Sally Maddox.
"She'll also be close to home."
Ryan will be joining three other Warren student-athletes at OU. Dylan Leffingwell and Grant Venham are on the Bobcats' football roster, while Wes Cochran runs cross country at the MAC school.
At Warren, Ryan is an all-round athlete and a letterwinner in three sports - volleyball, basketball, and track and field.
"Emma is very talented athletically," said Warren boys and throws coach Al Riffey.
"She enjoys throwing the discus and works hard at it."
Said Maddox, "She played other sports in high school, and it'll be intesting to see what she accomplishes in college when she focuses on throwing year-round."
While the discus is her specialty, Ryan said she'll also be throwing the hammer and weight throw in college.
In track, Ryan is a three-time All-Ohio honoree in the discus, and is currently seeking a fourth time on the podium at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in the OHSAA State Track and Field Championship on the campus of The Ohio State University on June 8.
Last year, Ryan threw her best at state, and placed seventh in Division I with a throw of 136-5.
When she was a freshman and sophomore, she competed in Division II at state.
In 2011, Ryan medaled with a throw of 128-0 in the discus event, good for third place. The week before in a regional at Meadowbrook in Byesville, she set a personal record in the event with a first-place toss of 139-4.
In 2010, Ryan was the only freshman competing in the discus at state, and she finished fourth with a throw of 125-7.
Recently, at the Don Marks Invitational at Morgan High in McConnelsville, Ryan was first in both the discus (135-4) and shot put (36-10).
This spring, Ryan's best throw in the discus has been 138-3.
Ryan is the daughter of Larry Ryan and Deana Wolfe. She has two sisters, Millie and Kate Ryan.
