HURRICANE -For the second straight year, Parkersburg High School's swim team won the MLK Invitational.
This time, the Big Reds of coach Linda Alt crushed the competition at the 10 team meet.
The Big Red girls rolled up 429.5 points compared to 185 for runnerup Hurricane.
The PHS boys won with 302 points, while Huntington was second with 187.
Finally, in the combined team scores, PHS doubled second place Hurricane, 731.5 to 352.
"We're preparing for the Mountain State Athletic Conference meet,'' said Alt, whose team seems to peaking at the right time.
Of the six relays contested Monday, PHS won five. The Big Red girls swept, with Claire Collett, Alexa Standley, Hannah Wareheim and Tara Foster claiming the 200 medley relay; Alexa Standley, Jen Standley, Wareheim and Tara Foster won the 200 freestyle; Collett, Jen Standley, Sarah Snider and Lacey Dulaney captured the 400 freestyle.
The 200 freestyle is the best indication of the Big Red girls dominance as Collett won, Snider was second, Jen Standley fourth and Sowji Mukkamala sixth.
In the 50 freestyle, Alexa Standley won, with Foster third and Dulaney fourth. Parkersburg's girls had at least a second place finish in every event.
The boys were nearly as dominant. Preston Padden won the 50 and 100 freestyle races with Sean Snider claiming the 200 free and taking second in the 500. Stephen Cottrell won the 100 butterfly and was third in the 200 individual medley. Peyton Hughes won the 100 backstroke.
PHS won two relays with Snider, Cheuvront, Hughes and Padden team to win both the 200 and 400 freestyle races.
