Then and Always

June 16, 2014 - Amy Phelps
A tear jerking story comes from England in "Then and Always" by Dani Atkins.

Rachel's life seems to be right on track. She is meeting her friends for one last night out before they all go off to college. She's excited for college, she's got a handsome boyfriend Matt and everything is perfect. Then a car careens out of control, and her best childhood friend, Jimmy, is killed saving her. Five years later, nothing is the same. Rachel's boyfriend and former friend, Cathy, are now together, and Rachel still mourns her friend Jimmy's death. When she comes home for her friend Sarah's wedding, not only will she have to see Matt and Cathy together, but also see Jimmy's mother and have too many reminders of what was. Perhaps it is the stress that contributes to the terrible headaches she has, and when she's on the verge of passing out from pain, tries to flag down a car and gets hurt. She wakes up in the hospital with a head injury and finds herself in a completely new world - one in which her dad doesn't have cancer, she's engaged to Matt, and Jimmy is still alive. What has happened to her? Is she in a new reality? Has she just had amnesia? And in this new world, who does she really want to be with?

This is a sweet story that will leave you guessing, and probably crying at the tear-jerker ending. Rachel is a great heroine and you'll know which guy she should definitely choose.

"Then and Always" is published by Ballantine Books. It is $15.
