Newspaper app can help you locate the garage sales
June 27, 2013 - Art Smith
Last weekend my daughter and her college roommates decided to check out area garage sales in the area to get items they need for their apartment in the fall.
Being the cool, tech-savvy dad I am I suggested they use our newspaper app to find what they were looking for. The garage sale locator feature on the app is the perfect blend of one of the oldest forms of advertising, the sign, and one of the newest – location-specific, gps-enhanced - web-based ads.
The feature, which is located under the MORE tab on our app, is eloquently simple. When a person places an ad for a garage sale in the newspaper, it also places it online under the garage sale button on our home page. The website gives you a handy map and a list to take along with you on your bargain hunt. It also sends it to our app.
Once you are on the road you can use the app to find the garage sales. The app puts a “pin” on the map where sales are located. Click on the pin and it will display what is featured at the sale.
Clicking on the blue arrow to the right of the listing will give you a detailed map and the option to get driving directions to the sale. Pretty neat, isn’t it?
Few technologies replace “the old way” of doing things. Newspaper ads, web listings, and signs in your yard are all great ways to let people know the sale is on. That’s why people turn to us to help them promote their sales. The app just makes it even better.
In the case of my iPhone-totting daughter and her roommates, it also resulted in sales at garage sales from Beverly to Parkersburg, and it made one dad seem a little less geekish to a trio of teenagers.
To download our app, just go to the website on your iPhone or Android phone, you will be promoted to download the app. Happy bargain hunting.
