Big Clear by Christopher Harris
April 15, 2013 - Amy Phelps
A noir story set in 2003 provides plenty of twists in "The Big Clear" by ESPN writer Christopher Harris.
Dub Storm is a slacker who likes to imbibe more than a bit and has decided a career as a private eye in his hometown of Austin will be enough to keep his habit going. A former Special Forces sniper, he has plenty of dangerous background to make him a force to be reckoned with - if he felt the need, that is.
When he gets a job by his long ago crush, the wealthy Heather Easley, to find her kidnapped nephew, he finds himself on the job just as the U.S. invades Iraq. Both the job and the memories are enough to remind him of his dangerous past, and that's when everything starts to fall apart.
There's plenty of wild characters and crime noir twists in this darkly funny book.
"The Big Clear" is published by Short Cipher Press. It is $12.
