Sharp by Alex Hughes
April 8, 2013 - Amy Phelps
Alex Hughes revisits police interrogator and telepath Adam in "Sharp."
Adam is a level eight telepath in a world shattered by a vicious tech war that now leaves the world more than a little fearful of technology. Once a drug addict, Alex's problem lead to burning out several young telepath minds in an experiment gone wrong. He is horrified to be called in to assist at a crime scene and see one of his former students is the victim. Is the murder linked to his past or has she gotten involved in something shady? Does it link to the hijacking of tech supplies across the city? Adam must sort out these cases and come to grips with his past as well as present relationship with detective Cherabino, who resents the accidental telepathic link he has forged between the two.
This is a grim and gritty police detective series, with a bit of science-fiction mixed in to an almost pulp noir setting. Alex is a good flawed hero to follow and his mysteries and well thought out. This is a great series for both mystery lovers and those that enjoy a bit of sci-fi.
"Sharp" is published by Roc. It is $7.99 and 352 pages long.
