Kiki’s Corner: The excitement of the eclipse
Last Monday we experienced a total solar eclipse across the country.
One of the first places it started was in Mexico and we experienced it here in Parkersburg around 3:15 p.m. I think possibly many people were disappointed because it did not get as dark as expected? Space commander of NASA Leroy Chiao said this will not take place until another 20 years so those of you that missed the eclipse will have to wait many years.
I personally did not get that excited about the eclipse having experienced it with my husband around 1969 while in Athens, Greece, but I do recall it seemed to have gotten darker in Greece as to what we experienced here.
It was emphasized how important it was even back then to have the correct glasses if you planned to view the eclipse to avoid doing damage to your eyes. I do hope that many children and people did not neglect the instructions as to not view the eclipse without special glasses etc.
One thing for sure they really commercialized the event leading to many people traveling to different states and locations where they could visit and observe the event taking place with many saying how spectacular and magical and a once in a lifetime experience.
This event had various effects on different things such as the animals and birds being confused with what was taking place.
Many schools dismissed early so they could observe the happening and also be instructed and view the tremendous scientific aspects. The main thing is how wonderful, spectacular and amazing that God’s creation of the world and universe actually is.
Till next week.
