MOV Parent: Teach your kids to be honest

A child in school taking a test and trying to look on someone else’s paper for an answer that he does not know is not being honest….and it is called cheating.

If you copy someone else’s homework or let someone else do it for you, this is also not being honest and cheating. It is also lying to yourself and the teacher, letting your teacher think you did the work is doing things under false pretenses.

Be sure to install in your child that honesty is a very important factor in life starting at a very young age.

Small things like cheating on a test or being dishonest will lead to more negative policies as they grow older and also becomes a matter of self respect.

Another aspect of taking pride at a young age is not to consider cheating or even lying when playing simple games like cards, checkers or various board games that you might take part in with your family and friends.

Just teach them to always play clean and fair and not take advantage of any situation which is more important than winning or losing..

Cheating occurs because there are some people that can not stand to lose at anything they take part in and will go to any extremes to be successful ( a false truth however). Winning just means everything to them and sadly will do most anything to achieve that goal…all that is nothing but false and sooner or later will have a negative effect on your child which makes it imperative that you as a parent teach them honesty, self pride and dignity when they are young.

Our children need guidance, leadership and confidence in us (serving as role models) which is a very important aspect as they develop and mature.

Some kids think that when they grow up, they will be able to do anything they want. And it may appear that some adults live that way.

Tell the kids all our lives we will have rules and laws to obey. That’s why kids need to obey their parents at an early stage. Doing what they say helps us learn to obey those in authority over us later in life; it also helps us want to do what’s right.

Be an example to your children. Let them follow the way you teach and live. If parents do something they forbid kids to do, it will appear to the children that adults can do whatever they want. We don’t want them to think like that…BE the perfect example to your children, grandchildren, or any child in your life. And last but not least, tell them how much you love them.

The word LOVE I personally think is very important to any child’s life, they feel secure and protected. So use the simple word love as often as you can to any child.

SLINKY THE SNAKE

2 10-inch Bundt cakes

1 40×20-inch cake board, covered

2 containers (16-ounces each) white frosting

green food coloring

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

red fruit roll up

assorted candies

Cut each bundt cake crosswise in half.

Position each half end to end to form one long snake shape. Place on prepared cake board, attaching pieces with small amount of frosting.

Tint the frosting lime green. Frost entire length of cake with green frosting, spreading frosting about halfway down sides of cake. Place chocolate chips in small resealable food storage bag.

Microwave on MEDIUM 20 seconds.

Knead bag several times, then microwave 20 seconds more until chocolate is melted. Cut tip off one corner of bag; pipe diamond pattern on back of snake. Cut out tongue and other decorations with fruit roll up. Decorate face and back of snake with assorted candies.

GREEN MEANIES

4 green apples

1 cup nut butter (cashew, almond or peanut butter)

almond slivers

Place apple, stem side up on cutting board. Cut away 2 halves from sides of apple, leaving 1-inch-thick center slice with stem and core. Discard core slice.

Cut each half round into 4 wedges using crinkle cutter.

Repeat with remaining apples. Each apple will yield 8 wedges. Spread 2 teaspoons nut butter or wide edge of apple slice. Top with another crinkled edge apple slice, aligning crinkled edges to resemble jaws. Insert almond slivers to make fangs.

QUICKSAND

3/4 cup creamy peanut butter

3 ounces cream cheese, softened

1 cup pineapple preserves

1/3 cup milk

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

dash hot pepper sauce

1 7-ounce package refrigerated breadstick dough

5 buttery round crackers, crushed

cut-up vegetables, such as carrots and celery, and fruit such as apples and pears, for dipping

Combine peanut butter and cream cheese in large bowl until well blended.

Stir in preserves, milk, Worcestershire sauce and hot pepper sauce, if desired. Transfer to serving bowl or spread in 8- or 9-inch glass pie plate.

Cover with plastic wrap; refrigerate until ready to serve. Preheat oven to 375.

Cut each breadstick in half crosswise; place on ungreased baking sheet. Make 3 slits in one end of each bread stick half to resemble fingers.

Cut small piece of dough from other end; press dough piece into hand to resemble thumb. Bake 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Just before serving, sprinkle dip with cracker crumbs; serve with breadstick hands, vegetables and fruit. Garnish as desired.
