Cozy mysteries for autumn
It’s time to pull up a chair and get cozy with some new cozy mysteries!
Halloween and Christmas time get mixed together with a murder mystery in “Mrs. Claus and the Halloween Homicide” by Liz Ireland.
Much like a certain children’s movie, Christmastown is celebrating Halloween, but not all of the North Pole is thrilled about this new holiday. April Claus, the newlywed wife of a certain St. Nick, is suddenly the target of some scary events, and then an elf, Tiny Sparkletoe, is found dead in front of his cottage, smushed by a monstrous footprint. Is there something spooky that is haunting them all? Will trick-or-treating take a deadly turn?
This is a wacky story with a bit of “Elf” meets “Nightmare Before Christmas” meets “Murder She Wrote.” It will definitely entertain readers during the HalloThankMas holiday season.
“Mrs. Claus and the Halloween Homicide” is published by Kensington Books.
Writer-for-hire Jaine Austen is back in “Murder Gets a Makeover” by Laura Levine.
Jaine has been enjoying freelance life in L.A. when her best friend, Lance, decides she needs a makeover and stylist Bebe Braddock wants to bolster her Instagram with Jaine’s before versus after. Jaine reluctantly agrees, and is soon at Bebe’s Brentwood house, and is front and center to how terribly she treats her employees and her husband. But when Bebe is found strangled by a wire hanger — no wire hangers! — Jaine is sure the suspect list is going to be long, but why is she at the top of it? Turns out her fingerprints are on the murder weapon, and now she wanted by the police. To clear her name, she’s going to have to solve the crime, and possibly try to resist the advances of Bebe’s young assistant Justin.
There’s cute cats, makeovers, murder and more in this hilarious romp of a cozy mystery.
