OVAC announces 2018-2019 honorees

All OVAC-member schools were asked to submit the names of any student athletes for the 2018-2019 sports season meeting these honor requirements: be in grades 9-12; earn a 3.8 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale for the 2018-2019 school year; and participate in at least one varsity sport. A letter in the sport was not required, just participation.

Honored from Fort Frye were: Justin Anderson, Hannah Archer, Morgan Borich, Grace Brockmeier, Nate Brothers, Kasey Buchanan, Stephanie Camden, Lindsay Heiss, Katie Horner, Brenden Huck, Lexie Huck, Lucas Huffman, Eric Isner, Keirsten Kesselring, Hallie Lang, Rhiannon Loane, Anna McIntire, Seth Miller, Caeley Mincks, Hannah Offenberger, Katelyn Rathburn, Karlee Ross, Khloee Ross, Bella Schilling, Brady Schilling, Lilli Schilling, Olivia Schneider, Catie Sleek, Colby Sleek, Connor Tullius, Jace Ward, Maddie Webb, Eden Woodford, Julia Zalmanek, Ethyn Zimmer, and Lauren Zwick.

Athletic directors will receive certificates for the students at their August meeting held at Belmont College by Ohio University Eastern Dean Jeremy Webster and athletic director E.J. Schodzinski. Forty-eight of the 50 OVAC schools took advantage of this opportunity to honor their students. A total of 2749 student athletes received this honor, the largest number in thirteen years.

Ohio University Eastern sponsors this program, now in its thirteenth year. Students who choose to attend OUE receive a scholarship that pays half of their tuition and the scholarship is renewable for their sophomore year as long as their grades are maintained.


American Legion Riders Post 389 in Beverly is holding a Harley Davidson FLHCS Heritage Softtail 114 raffle. Tickets are $20 each and are available from any member of the Legion Post 389. Other prizes include a second prize of $1000, 3rd prize of $500 and three (3) $200 winners. Winners must be present to with the $200 prizes. A cash prize of $14,000 is available for the first prize winner should they not want the Harley. Winner of the motorcycle is responsible for all taxes, fee, etc. and will be responsible for picking it up at Athens Harley Davidson in Athens, OH.

The drawing will be held September 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion in Beverly during the ALA Sixteenth Annual Poker Run and Chili Cook-off.


The Fort Frye Band Boosters are holding a gun raffle. Contact any member of the Boosters to purchase a ticket for a Ruger American 450 BM Camo gun through Jim’s Gun Shop LLC. Tickets are $10 each and sales are limited to 250 tickets. A live drawing will be held on Facebook on or before September 19, 2019.
