The Amazing Chamber Chase, Part TWO!

Last year we launched a new event through the Chamber entitled The Amazing Chamber Chase. Held in October 2017, this event was a team scavenger hunt in Downtown Parkersburg, complete with clues, selfies and fun activities. Twenty-seven teams of at least 4 people participated, many dressed up in team costumes/themes, then figured out 10 clues to lead them throughout the downtown area.

Here’s a clue from last year:

George Elmendorf was the founder of this business, which is celebrating their 135th anniversary this year.

I grew up in the Mid-Ohio Valley and I would not have known the answer to this clue.

Cue Google! Use of cell phones was encouraged, so if you Googled “George Elmendorf + Parkersburg” one of the first entries would be a history page from the Leavitt Funeral Home website. Off you and your team would head to Leavitt Funeral Home on the corner of Avery and 7th Streets where several employees had a corn hole activity set up to complete before venturing off to your next clue.

It was great to see so many people wandering the streets, having fun, and getting a little exercise (although I prefer if participants don’t run as the safety and security of the attendees is a priority.)

Teams then reported back to the Bicentennial Park with their phones full of selfies and completed clue sheet for prizes and refreshments. One of the first teams that completed the clue sheet asked if we could do the event again the following week! I knew we had a hit on our hands so Amazing Chamber Chase Part Two will be held on Thursday, October 4th from 5:30-8 p.m.

Gather a team of at least 4 co-workers, friends, family – maybe you might want to dress alike or in fun costumes?? (Each team must have at least 2 adults over the age of 18)

At 5:45 p.m., you and your 3+ teammates will receive a list of clues to decipher and locations to find in Downtown Parkersburg. (Yes, cell phones are permitted! Actually you’ll need at least one cell phone to document the clues and selfies – see below)

The entire team must go to each location where you will have to take a selfie and compete in a small activity (fun easy things like a ring toss, draw something, sing a song…)

One teammate will need to be the timekeeper because ALL teams/ALL teammates must report back to Bicentennial Park at 7:30 p.m. PROMPT with as many clues/activities that you’ve completed! (This is NOT a timed race – in fact we encourage you to walk and enjoy yourselves, just be back by 7:30 p.m.!!)

At 7:30 p.m. we will enjoy refreshments and award prizes!

The route is less than 2 miles. Water will be provided, plus some clue locations have been kind enough to offer restrooms if needed.

Cost: $40 per team of 4 (additional teammates are $10/person)

Register: Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. The on-line link can be found at

Not so much interested in walking around that evening, but you want to say you helped make the event a great success? Guess what? Sponsors and Volunteers are also needed!

Special thanks to our 2018 Amazing Chamber Chase Event Sponsor Curry Warehouses and to Kuraray America for helping to sponsor the awards reception at the end of the evening.

There are still sponsorship opportunities available:

Hydration Sponsor – $1000 (only one available)

Costume Contest Sponsor – $750 (only one available)

Awards Reception Sponsors – $500 (only 6 remaining)

Clue Sponsors – $250 (only 8 left)

Sponsor sign-up can also be found at

We also need approximately 20 volunteers to set up, welcome the teams, man the clue/activity stations (will need cell phone for this assignment) and to help at intersections to keep our teams safe in traffic (you will get to wear a cool neon yellow vest!) These are great opportunities for school groups and civic organizations!

Please send us an email at your earliest convenience at if you are able to help out from 5:30-8 p.m. on Thursday, October 4.
