Art show winners named

The Fort Frye High School Art Department held its annual student art show Thursday, May 12 in the high school’s small gym. Students in Ms. Kathy Allen-Bidwell’s Art I, II, III and IV classes contributed artwork to the show.

Winning “Best of Show” for the 2016 presentation was Alexandra Dixon for her ceiling tile painting. This marks the second consecutive year the freshman art student has won “Best of Show” honors.

Several students presented more than one entry in a category. The winning entry, from multiple entries where appropriate, is noted after the student’s name. Those students receiving top honors in various media categories, listed by first, second, and third place were:

Tomorrow is the last day to enter the Beverly-Waterford Pool 50th Anniversary T-shirt design contest.

Show us your creative talent! The public is being asked to submit designs for a shirt to honor the pool’s 50th birthday. The winning design will be printed on the 50th anniversary T-shirt. The winning designer will receive a free T-shirt, with recognition on the shirt and public recognition on social media and the pool’s website. T-shirts will be available for ordering at the end of May.

Submission rules for the shirt include: the design must honor the 50th anniversary of the Beverly-Waterford Pool; design needs to be in one color; must be original work; must be submitted no later than May 23; design will be chosen by May 27. Submissions should be emailed to

This Wednesday, May 25, the Beverly-Waterford Pool Association will host an open house from 5-7 p.m. The community is invited to come tour the pool and get their season pool passes. The group thanks Boy Scout Troop 222 for refurbishing the poolside benches.
