Letter to the Editor: Support Wood County Schools levy
(Letter to the Editor - Graphic Illustration/MetroCreativeConnection)
The Wood County Schools Excess Levy Call, also known as a continuing or renewal levy, has been in place since 1945 and has been renewed every 5 years by area voters.
The levy primarily pays for personnel above what is covered by the state funding formula. That includes school nurses, counselors, reading and math interventionists. It also helps support other area organizations, such as libraries and other agencies that support our students.
The five year levy will raise $20.9 million annually to pay for positions and services not covered by the state aid formula. This will not increase taxes, as the levy has already been in effect for years thanks to Wood County voters.
The Parkersburg High School Foundation supports the levy as an investment in the future of Wood County Schools. Please vote for the levy on Nov. 8.
