Letter to the Editor: Don’t forget to vote

(Letter to the Editor - Graphic Illustration/MetroCreativeConnection)

It’s almost time to vote again. I will vote for those that are not afraid to admit that Joe Biden won the presidency. Despite all the lawsuits, Democratic and Republican judges alike confirmed that the 2020 presidential election was one of the most secure in our nation’s history.

We are a nation of many religions and some of us have no religion. We thought we were safe with Roe — 50 years of precedent that balanced protection for the unborn and a woman’s right to choose. But the Supreme Court has taken away the religious freedom of the majority and it is not through yet, and neither are the states.

We likewise take Social Security and Medicare for granted although some Republicans think it should be voted on every few years despite our lifetime of contributions. We thought Roe was safe; what other surprises does our rogue Supreme Court have in store for us? What freedoms would a Republican House and Senate take away from us next? Please vote for the Democrats.

Please vote for those that will work together on immigration, not just blame our president in order to stay in office. Immigration policy is the responsibility of Congress. Immigrants have always been one of our greatest assets and they are ready to go to work on our farms, in our factories, in our service industries and in flood- and fire-devastated areas. A new policy on immigration might even help control inflation.

What scares me most about the upcoming election is the denial of the truth in order to get elected and a minority that is forcing their views on the rest of us — in our personal lives, our healthcare, our libraries, our public schools and elsewhere. The Democrats are far from perfect but at least they believe in the “peaceful transition of power” from one president to the next. Please, don’t forget to vote.
