Southern border surge

It has become well documented that the southern border situation has become untenable, and now even some main stream news outlets are questioning whether the influx has become a major crisis. I believe I have read one AP article in this newspaper with a minor reference to the border situation. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, who has refused to call the situation a “crisis,” said in a statement that “we are on pace to encounter more individuals on the southwest border than we have in the last 20 years.”

He has also stated that the border is closed. So I ask, which is it? It was previously estimated that as many as 13,000 unaccompanied minors would cross the border in May, but this has already been surpassed with 17,000 expected during March. One illegal immigrant told Martha Raddatz with ABC News that he would have never tried to cross the border if Donald Trump were still president.

Now we have to wonder why this is happening.

During a primary campaign stop hosted by the Asian and Latino Coalition PAC, candidate Biden literally got in the face of an attendee and said “Let me put it another way. We could afford to take in a heartbeat another two million (immigrants). The idea that a country of 330 million cannot afford people, who are in desperate need and who are justifiably weak, and fleeing depression is absolutely bizarre,” Biden said.

At the October 2019 Democratic primary debate in Ohio, Biden claimed that illegal immigrants should immediately surge to the border if he got elected as president. “I would in fact make sure that there is — that we immediately surge to the border all those people who are seeking asylum. They deserve to be heard. That’s who we are,” he continued. “We’re a nation that says ‘if you want to flee and you’re fleeing oppression, you should come!”

In a 2019 interview, Biden said that all illegal immigrants should have access to health care, the same as any U.S. citizen. In another interview in August 2020, then candidate Biden stated that all undocumented workers paying taxes in the U.S. should be eligible for subsidized health care. In his most recent interview with George Stephanopoulos, he said he is proposing amnesty legislation to provide the 11 million plus illegal aliens in this country a pathway to citizenship.

In the same interview, he stated that immigrants should not come now. Now? I think it is a bit late. The horses are already out of the barn. Also, during his CNN-hosted town hall meeting on Feb. 17, Biden confirmed that such a pathway for citizenship must be included in any immigration bill that he would consider signing. Sure sounds like an open invite to me. And yet, guess who the Biden administration is blaming?

The eye-opening reports and photos from the border have become so damaging that Biden’s administration has imposed a media gag order on border patrol agents, prohibiting press access to migrant facilities, using the excuse of COVID-19 precautions.

Reports state that the Mexican cartels are making $14 million a day charging to transport/allow those making the trip north. The cartels are encouraging this and telling migrants that they will be welcomed and not turned back.
