Fact check on Biden’s America

In the letter in the 10/3 News and Sentinel titled “More on Biden’s America,” the writer listed areas of concern if Biden were elected. All were misrepresentations or outright lies. I want to address each one.

In Biden’s America: “China will hack our computers and steal our technology with no reprisals.” Biden has made it clear there will be a price to pay for any interference by anyone. What was not mentioned was that every U.S. intelligence agency and the bi-partisan Senate Intelligence committee found that the Russian government engaged in a multi-faceted effort to influence the 2016 election and that help was welcomed by Trump and is still happening.

In Biden’s America: “Everyone’s taxes will be exorbitant.” Biden’s proposal imposes a 12.4 percent Social Security tax on earned income over $400,000 per year. The current cap is $137,700. No tax will be paid for income between $137,700 and $400,000. Income tax on individuals making above $400,000 per year will go up from 37 to 39.6 percent.

In Biden’s America: “Few people will have health care.” Biden’s plan does not eliminate private health care, but allows people to choose a public option if they can’t afford their private plans. It is not socialism if the government does not own or operate the hospitals and medical clinics. Trump has no plan except to end the ACA causing millions of Americans to lose their health care and or not be able to afford insurance because pre-existing conditions will not be covered.

In Biden’s America: “The Supreme Court will be packed with liberal Judges.” The GOP denied President Obama his right to appoint a Supreme Court Justice 10 months before the 2016 election, but now want to ram through their nomination weeks before the 2020 election.

In Biden’s America: “The racial divide will grow.” No need to address this ridiculous statement. Trump is a racist and stirs those fears every day.

In Biden’s America: “No American troops will be coming home.” Under Trump some of those coming home are in body bags because of Russian bounties placed on our service men’s heads.

In Biden’s America: “The U.S. would be entirely funding NATO.” Two years before Trump took office, NATO allies agreed to spend 2 percent of its GDP on its own defense by 2024. They have added $130 billion toward reaching the $400 billion goal.
