During the month of July 2020, two memorable projects were completed in Parkersburg. First was (re)placing of the steeple atop the Wood County Courthouse. The courthouse looks complete again! We extend special appreciation to county administrator Marty Seufer for initiating and overseeing the project, to our county commissioners for approving the project, and to the West Virginia Courthouse Facilities Improvement Authority whose grant enabled the project to be completed. It is noteworthy that the general contractor for this project was a local firm, Murray Sheet Metal and their affiliate, UCCI.
The second memorable project involving a local landmark was the replacement of the Jackson Fountain in City Park. The original had been damaged beyond repair in the fall of 2018. Our new “Lady of the Lake” and the fountain she stands atop are beautiful! Those deserving appreciation for this project include Mayor Joyce, City Council and the wisdom and resources of the Jackson family who years ago set up a fund for maintenance of the fountain, and who allowed that fund to be used toward the purchase of what is nearly a replica of the original. The contractor and foundry at which the fountain was produced are also to be commended.
