A request for President Trump

Dear Mr. President,

Would you please tell every American to just stay home? And would you please tell every governor to shut everything down except “essential” businesses? And for goodness sakes, that includes churches. We have forever heard the falsehood about how God has been taken out of the public schools. But everyone knows you can pray anywhere and at any time with no “props” whatsoever. We cannot stop the spread of this virus until everyone is on the same page.

We have lost a lot of ground in our fight against the coronavirus because we have not been testing enough people. You should have used the Defense Production Act to force industry to manufacture the test kits necessary to track this disease and quarantine those unwittingly spreading it to others. Despite the daily pleas of our health care experts for more test kits going on two months now, we are still woefully lacking.

And Mr. President, would you please use the Defense Production Act to force industry to make the ventilators, face masks and all the other protective gear and medication our doctors and nurses need to take care of the thousands of Covid-19 casualties that are flooding our hospitals? And would you appoint someone at the head of it (who knows what they are doing) to make sure supplies get distributed where they are needed in a timely manner? You have wasted a couple months by procrastinating and thousands of people are going to die as a result.

And would you please, Mr. President, stop trying to do away with The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare)? You don’t have anything to take its place and your people need health care now more than ever — healthcare that is affordable and accessible. Ohio, like many other states, has practically shut down Planned Parenthood clinics and then everyone is simply amazed that we have more maternal deaths than any other industrialized country.

Mr. President, we are a strong people. When we have a problem, we don’t blame others; we get to work and fix it. And we all pull together. Right now we need a president that listens to the scientists and experts and then acts. Inaction will only cost more lives. I will be 80 in a couple months. I would not accept a ventilator if one were indicated because of my age. Your doctors and nurses are risking their lives every day when they go to work without the proper equipment. Please help us all stay safe.
