What Rep. Johnson didn’t say
In a recent column (July 4) Representative Bill Johnson complains that under President Obama gasoline went from $1.84 on the day of his inauguration to $3.68 today. What he does not mention is that in the summer before President Obama took office, while George W. Bush was president, a gallon of gasoline was over $4.
The financial collapse that started during President Bush’s presidency not only pushed the price of gasoline down, it also pushed the Dow Jones Industrial Average down from 13,000 in January of 2008, to 8,000 one year later on the day President Obama was inaugurated. Today the Dow stands at 17,000.
