Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down
UP: To the celebration of Easter, as churches and other organizations throughout the Mid-Ohio Valley found ways to safely observe the holiest of Christian holidays yesterday. The weekend was filled with Easter egg hunts and other events to get us into the spirit of the season — a time of joy, a celebration of new life and redemption. Even for non-Christians the weekend is a reminder that the sun has returned. For all of us, there is hope, even if for a second year in a row, our celebrations looked a little different from those in years past.
“The great gift of Easter is hope — Christian hope, which makes us have that confidence in God, in his ultimate triumph, and in his goodness and love, which nothing can shake.”
— 20th Century English clergyman Basil Hume
UP: To news last week that Wood County’s COVID-19 cases had dropped slightly; and that Doddridge County has the highest vaccination rate in the area. Keep up the good work, ladies and gentlemen. Keep wearing your masks, washing and sanitizing your hands, staying distanced, staying home if you don’t feel well (and getting tested), and get your vaccine shots. We are making progress, but it is up to all of us to remain vigilant.
