Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down
UP: To Williamstown Elementary School staff and students for accomplishing 2020 National Blue Ribbon School status. Williamstown Elementary is the first Wood County school to receive the honor twice. “Our teachers work hard, we work hard, parents work hard and the students work hard,” said principal Heather Bretthauer. “We can’t do it without the community. It’s a community effort all the way around.” Congratulations, folks. To keep striving for that level of excellence, especially given the unusual nature of the end of the 2019-2020 academic year, take a special school indeed. Well done.
UP: To those who take care of our local cemeteries. This one came from a reader, who asked that we give credit where credit is due when it comes to the funeral home staff and groundskeepers who take care of the places where our loved ones are buried. It means a great deal more than perhaps they realize, but their work does not go unnoticed.
UP: To those who kept traffic flowing during work on Grand Central and Murdoch avenues recently. This one also comes from a reader, who wanted to thank the West Virginia Department of Highways and the contractor who resurfaced what is reportedly the busiest stretch of road in the state, but kept traffic delays to a minimum. Again, good work does not go unheeded.
