Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down
UP: To outgoing Parkersburg Utility Board vice chairman John Lutz, whose 16 years of service to the board ended last week. Board member Paul Hoblitzell told Lutz “you have been an asset to us.” Certainly anyone who is willing to dedicate the time and energy it takes to serve on one of our local boards and commissions is an asset to the community. But we, too, are grateful for Lutz’s years of service; and for his being the kind of person to deflect the spotlight. “We have such dedicated and knowledgeable managers and employees working for the board that it makes it very easy to be on the board,” Lutz said. “The citizens of Parkersburg really get good service for their money.” Thank you, sir, for YOUR service to our community.
UP: To Jackson County School Superintendent Blaine Hess, for being named the West Virginia Superintendent of the Year by the state Association of School Administrators. Hess does not limit his community activities to the school system. He is a member of the Jackson County Development Authority, and a member of the a Jackson County Anti-Drug Coalition. He will go on to represent West Virginia as a candidate for the 2021 AASA National Superintent of the Year. Good luck to you, sir.
UP: To Dr. Anthony Fauci’s cautious optimism that a vaccine for COVID-19 may be available by the end of this year or early 2021. Here’s hoping Americans will exercise enough common sense and caution between now and then to prevent virus hotspots from reigniting the epidemic across the country.
