Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down
UP: To all our local first responders, but particularly to members of the Parkersburg Fire Department who gave us an unsettling reminder of just how dangerous their jobs can be this week. When two were injured during what should have been a routine house fire call, Capt. Brian Drake said “We told the guys this is a very dangerous job. They’re very good at what they do, but sometimes as good as they are, things happen. I don’t want them to forget how dangerous the job is.” Nor should we. As always, our community is grateful there are those willing to rush in where the rest of us would be running away.
UP: To the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 4487 in Williamstown, which is helping its community by holding a fundraiser to benefit both SW Resources and Williamstown High School football’s effort to purchase new uniforms. It takes everyone to find ways to fulfill our communities’ many needs. As always, we know we can count on groups such as the Eagles to step up.
UP: To news that the Sistersville Ferry will likely be returning to service this season. Barb Gage, chairwoman of the Sistersville Ferry Board, says pilot Herman “Bo” Hause will be back at his post and will do other work for the city during the off-season. “He’s an exceptional worker,” Gage said. “He will be a wonderful asset to the city.” Hause and the ferry are both important assets for our region, and we are glad to know they will be back.
