Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down
UP: To federal funding that will bring broadband access to thousands of Wetzel and Tyler county residents. “It’s just a really big step,” said Wetzel County Commissioner Larry Lemon. “We’ve been waiting for this to happen for quite a while.” Such an expansion will help students, families, businesses — it should be a boost for the entire region. Kudos to those who worked so hard to bring it to fruition.
DOWN: To those on both sides of the aisle who are taking advantage of folks whose memory is a little hazy regarding their high school civics lessons, as they apply to the impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump and its potential consequences. No good can come from the number of flatly wrong assertions being spread like wildfire on social media. Stop the cycle. A little research will quickly show the error in passing them along any further.
UP: To the U.S. House of Representatives’ passage of the Bipartisan American Miners Act of 2019, which should provide a solution to shoring up miners’ pensions. Certainly West Virginia and Ohio are among the states that would be heavily hit without such a measure, though it will affect a total of 92,000 miners’ pensions; and protect health care benefits for 15,000 miners. That is fantastic news, indeed, ahead of Christmas.
