Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down

UP: To this year’s West Virginia Interstate Fair and Exposition, which is a good time for all no matter what the temperature. Kudos to the youngsters who spend so much effort in getting animals ready for the livestock competitions and shows. It is hard to beat the annual combination of fair food, crafts, vendors, rides, music, demolition derbies … and did we mention fair food? Today is the last day for the fair. If you have not yet made it out to Mineral Wells, don’t miss the chance.

UP: To Paden City’s Marble King for being chosen to represent West Virginia in this year’s Made in America Products Showcase. “Everyone at Marble King is very excited with the opportunity to have our marbles featured. … We look forward to introducing our marbles to representatives from all 50 states,” said president and CEO of Marble King Beri Fox.

UP: To the hiring of Lauren Keeling as the new principal of Belpre Elementary School. Keeling, who has the “full confidence and support” of Superintendent Jeff Greenley, said she is excited for the opportunity. “I love Belpre and I love this school,” she said. Surely she will use that passion and her considerable skills to provide a smooth transition for the school and its students upon outgoing principal Joy Edgell’s stepping down after seven years. We offer Keeling our congratulations and wish her luck.
