Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down
UP: To Glenville State College student Jacob Bullard, a senior criminal justice major who is interning with the Burnsville Police Department. Bullard’s quick assessment of an overdose victim and recent certification in CPR meant he was able to immediately begin delivering chest compressions and revive the victim’s heart. “He initiated CPR perfectly and, after three attempts, we were able to restart this subject’s heart before EMTs arrived,” said Burnsville Police Chief Jim Ball. “I think the big reason for that was because of Jake. He did a good job.”
UP: To winners of the 43rd annual Western Regional Math Field Day for Calhoun, Jackson, Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane, Tyler, Wirt and Wood counties. Regional winners in 4th through 12th grades will go on to compete in the state Math Field Day April 27.
UP: To the 2019 Wood County Young Author and Illustrator Contest winners, who were honored at a reception at the Parkersburg Art Center last month. During the reception, children’s author Bruce Hale reminded the students to dream big, use their imaginations and work hard for their goals. It seems as though most of them are well on that path.
UP: To the first responders honored this week by the Muskingum Valley Beverly-Waterford Chamber of Commerce and the Sons of the American Revolution for the integrity and bravery they display every day on the job.
