Phillip L. Weser

Phillip L. Weser, age 75, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born in Las Vegas, NV, Phil lived in Alaska and Texas before returning to Parkersburg, his family’s hometown. He attended Parkersburg South High School, excelling academically and playing basketball for the Patriots. Phil continued his education at West Virginia Institute of Technology, earning a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering while also playing basketball. He later received a master’s in business from Pittsburgh University.

Phil was preceded in death by his father, Harold Weser, his mother, Lurana Weser, both of Parkersburg, father-in-law, James L. Turner, brother-in-law, James P. Turner of Morgantown, and his loyal four- legged companion, Mina. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Dana; brother, Robert (Barbara); children, Phillip A. Weser (Melanie), Gretchen Meyer, and Austin Weser (Heather & Henry); granddaughters, Eva, Madeline, Elsa, and Naomi; niece, Brooke; mother-in-law, Patricia Turner; nephew, Adam; niece, Jesse; and his four-legged companion, Kyle.

After college, Phil spent 13 years working as an engineer and project manager for Bechtel Corporation and Mellon-Stuart. In 1984, he and his business partner Jerry Beafore established the March-Westin Company, launching their venture from Phil’s garage. Headquartered in Morgantown, March-Westin offers comprehensive general contracting and construction management services. The company has completed over 2,000 projects throughout West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and New York, and proudly employs more than 150 skilled tradespeople, engineers, and professional staff from the local and surrounding communities. The company was recognized by Inc. Magazine in 1989 and 1990 as one of the fastest-growing private companies in the United States – the first WV firm to earn this honor. Over his career, Phil also served as a majority owner in several other businesses.

Phil held many leadership roles and earned numerous accolades, including West Virginia Institute of Technology Engineering Alumnus of the Year (1997), WV Construction Entrepreneur of the Year (1998), WV Small Businessperson of the Year (2002), Mylan Park Milan Puskar Award Recognizing Exemplary Community Service (2024), and served as Past Chairman of the WV Construction Education Trust. He was a member of the WV Business Roundtable, past Chairman of Associated Builders and Contractors of WV, past President of Contractors Association of WV, and served as President of the Morgantown Area Chamber of Commerce in 2008.

Phil was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and a dedicated supporter of the Mountaineers, regularly attending both basketball and football games for many years. He was passionate about Formula One racing, seldom missing a race on television or in person. Additionally, he enjoyed listening to a wide variety of music genres.

Phil was known for his unique humor and humility. He inspired many and fostered a strong peer community by following the Golden Rule. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Angie, Adrienne, and Dottie for their outstanding care and compassion, and to his best buddy David for sharing so many memorable adventures.

A celebration of Phil’s life will be held at 2:00PM in the Morgantown Marriott Platinum Ballroom on January 3, 2026.
