John A. Brookover

John A. Brookover, 68, of Davisville, West Virginia, passed away peacefully November 9, 2025.

He was born in Parkersburg on April 5, 1957, the son of the late Chester Brookover and Patty Lou Sellers Brookover-Belknap of Parkersburg.

John was a 1976 graduate of Parkersburg High School, where he proudly played quarterback for the Parkersburg Big Reds and participated in several other sports at both Parkersburg High and Jackson Junior High and achieved his goal of playing every sport offered at Jackson. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing especially for Walleye on Lake Erie, golfing, bowling, and traveling. A passionate NASCAR and WVU Mountaineer fan, John most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

While in high school, he worked at Wagner Tire until he went to work for EI Dupont in 1980. He retired in 2013 after 33 years of service.

He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Amy D. Cline Brookover of Davisville; Their daughter, Morgan Olivia Brookover of Davisville; his mother, Patty Lou Sellers Brookover-Belknap of Parkersburg; and his sisters, Karen Brookover Collins (Wayne) of Hilliard, Ohio, and Debbie Brookover Blais (Jacques) of Lake Mary, Florida. His sister in law, Rebecca Duckworth (Mark) of Marietta, OH. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Michael Brookover.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg, with Pastor Tim Kemp officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

The family would like to thank Housecalls Hospice, his wonderful Nurse Brittany, and all the other nurses and aides that have helped take care of him during his illness.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to Housecalls Hospice.
