Carl H. Schmidt

Carl H. Schmidt, 90, of Belpre, Ohio, died on Oct. 1, 2025, at home. He was born in Buffalo, New York, on April 20, 1935. He was born to the late Carl and Luise Schmidt, and brother of the late Ilse Schmidt Murray. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 51 years, Nancy A. Schmidt, on May 19, 2021. He will be cremated.

Mr. Schmidt had been an Engineer by trade, still interacting with the trade until his death, most recently with his friends at United Construction Company, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, having retired from First Energy of Akron, Ohio, and PSEG of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was also a veteran of the United States Air Force.

Carl was a race car driver and race official for many years, it was one of his many passions, which also included hunting, and guns. Carl was also a firearms instructor for many years. As can be seen in this photo from 2024, Carl also had quite a sense of humor.

Survivors include his brother in law, Quincy A Wyatt, Jr., Kingwood, West Virginia, nephew Victor Wyatt of Kingwood, West Virginia, Nephew Ronald Wyatt, and wife Sandy, of Morgantown, West Virginia, nephew Christopher Wyatt, and wife Elizabeth, of Morgantown, West Virginia, niece Rachel McCarty, and husband Alan, of Madison Heights, Virginia, and nephew John Wyatt, and wife Ashley, of Tunnelton, West Virginia, and numerous great nieces and nephews, and several great great nieces and nephews.

In Carl’s memory, donations may be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

A visitation will be held at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre, on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
