Sandra Lee Lessig

Sandra Lee Lessig
Sandra Lee Lessig, affectionately known as Sandy to her friends and loved ones, was called to her eternal rest on July 1, 2025. Born on December 10, 1938, in Parkersburg, WV, Sandy was a beacon of love and kindness throughout her 86 years of life. Surrounded by the familiar comforts of home, she peacefully passed away, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and generosity. The family is especially grateful for the caring staff of Housecalls Hospice of Parkersburg.
Sandy was the cherished daughter of the late Dr. W. Russell McLaughlin and Edna Martha (Hiatt), whose values and love shaped her into the remarkable woman she became. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 56 years, C. Robert Lessig, with whom she shared a lifetime of treasured memories. Sandy’s spirit will be carried on by her devoted son, R. Todd Lessig (Patti) of Cleveland, OH, and her loving daughter, Renee Lessig of Myrtle Beach, SC. Being a housewife and mother was the cornerstone of her life’s work, a vocation she approached with grace and unwavering commitment. Her role as a grandmother was one of her most treasured, and she will be fondly remembered by her granddaughters, Bailey Lessig and Kiersten Joseph (Kevin) of Columbus, OH. Her niece, Terri Zimmerman (David), will also hold dear the wisdom and affection Sandy imparted.
Sandy spent many years showcasing her love for the arts through her performances in theater productions at The Actors Guild and her performance in “Eden on the River” on Blennerhassett Island. Her leadership skills shone brightly during her tenure as chairwoman of the Beaux Arts Ball for the Art Center, Fine Arts Council board member, president of the Junior League, and Community Concert Association chairwoman. As a volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital, Sandy’s compassionate nature brought comfort and solace to countless individuals. She participated in many fashion shows as a model for Broida’s Stone and Thomas, Pianelli’s, and Corner on the Market. She enjoyed teaching young girls about fashion and etiquette as director of the Wendy Ward School of Charm at Montgomery Wards, and as a member of the faculty at Glenville State College. She also taught cheerleading clinics at the YMCA.
Today, as we reflect on Sandy’s life, we are reminded of the impact one person can have on so many. Her smile, her gentle touch, and her wise words have left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her. Sandy’s journey on earth may have come to an end, but her spirit continues to resonate in the lives of her family, her friends, and the many individuals she touched with her kindness and grace.
Arrangements are being made for private family service. Messages of condolence may be shared online at www.leavittfuneralhome.com. In her memory, the family requests donations to the Humane Society of Parkersburg or the Parkersburg Community Foundation.
