Raymond Lewis Lusk

Raymond Lewis Lusk, age 92, of Parkersburg, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on Jan. 13, 2025. He was born on Nov. 7, 1932, in Lorado, Logan County, West Virginia, the son of Virgil and Alpha Lusk (both deceased). Raymond lived a full and meaningful life, known for his strong work ethic, devotion to his family, and dedication to his community.

Raymond spent 38 years with Hope Natural Gas Company, where he earned the respect of colleagues and made lasting contributions to the company. He also proudly served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, stationed in Augsburg, Germany, during the post-war years.

On January 1, 1956, Raymond married his beloved wife, Jewel Whitten Lusk. They were blessed to celebrate 69 years of marriage this New Year’s. Together, they raised a family that includes their children, Neva Lusk (Steve Chambers), Keith Lusk (Aimee Lusk), Jeff Lusk (Elizabeth Lusk), and Greg Lusk (Rebecca Lusk). Raymond’s family was the center of his life, and he treasured his role as a father and grandfather. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Christine Chambers and Tom Chambers, as well as his great-grandchildren, Paul and Henry Poerschke.

Raymond was an avid outdoorsman, finding joy in hunting and fishing. He was a passionate sports enthusiast and a loyal fan of the New York Yankees, Cleveland Browns, and Los Angeles Lakers. In addition to his love for sports, he was deeply committed to his church and community. Raymond was an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Parkersburg, where he served in various capacities, including as President of the Harvester Class, Deacon, Board Member, Baptismal Caretaker for 40 years, and Director of Baptist Youth Fellowship. He also assisted with Wednesday Night Family Meals.

Raymond’s involvement extended beyond the church. He was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge No. 3, where he was awarded the rank of 33rd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the Knights Commandery and served as the Past Worthy Grand Patron of the Order of Eastern Star in West Virginia. He spent over 20 years on the Masonic Board of Directors and served as a Personal Representative for the Sovereign Grand Inspector General (SGIG-USA). Additionally, Raymond dedicated ten years of service as Chairman of Daffodil Days for the American Cancer Society.

A private family viewing is scheduled at Leavitt Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Parkersburg, West Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Raymond’s honor.

Raymond’s life will be remembered for his kindness, leadership, and unwavering commitment to his family, faith, and community. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
