Peggy Sue Underwood Malone
Peggy Sue Underwood Malone, 78, of St. Marys, WV, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024, in the loving care and home of longtime friend, Debbie Lamp. She was born July 14, 1946. The daughter of the late James Sterling Underwood and Rosemary Edith Hooper. She married the love of her life, Lewis G. Malone, on September 26, 1964. Together they raised a son, James Ray. After graduation from St. Mary’s High School, Peggy began working at Ben Franklin’s. From there she went to the Colin Anderson Center, where she worked until the closure of the facility in 1998. Peggy eventually retired from the St. Marys Correctional Facility with over 40 years of service to the State of West Virginia.
Peggy was a devoted mother as well as a caregiver to several family members over the years. She had the patience of a saint, dealing with antics of her ornery husband and close friend, Phil Lamp. She enjoyed gardening, camping, country music, and dancing. As well as cooking and serving dinners at the Elk’s Lodge where many of her husband’s antics took place.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosemary and Sterling; Lewis, her husband of almost 46 years; her son, James Ray; one sister, Patty Underwood; two brothers, Paul and Jimmy Underwood; a special aunt, Pauline; and Uncle John.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to Pleasants County Humane Society.
Services will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at the Ingram Funeral Home in St. Marys, WV, with Pastor Richard Cale officiating. Interment will be in the Willow Island Cemetery.
