John William Chapman

John William Chapman
John William Chapman, 77, of Washington, WV, passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 11, 2025.
He was born on Sept. 11, 1947, a son of the late John and Ruby Chapman.
John was a graduate with the first graduating class of Parkersburg South High School in 1968. He retired from Dupont, where he worked as an E&I Mechanic for over 30 years, and he was a senior member of the Lubeck Volunteer Fire Department holding several positions over the years, including Captain and Assistant Chief. John was also a proud member of VFW Post 1212 and Moose Lodge 1118.
He loved going out to eat and meeting friends. A few of his favorite places were The NET, where he met a group of friends every Saturday for lunch, Der Dog Haus, The Boathouse, and Western Sizzlin. We know his lunchtime friends will greatly miss him, so we ask them to have a half-and-half sweet tea or cold Bud Light in his honor.
John is survived by his children, Amanda Wigal (Jarrod) of Belleville, WV, and Adam Chapman (Erin) of Lubeck, WV; four grandchildren that he was so very proud of that he talked about them to everyone he knew, they were his life and he loved them more than anything, Baileigh Cogar (Jared), Brennen Lewis, Logan Chapman, and Brayden Chapman; and two bonus granddaughters he loved and cared for, Grace Wigal and Paige Wigal.
His family would like to extend special thanks to their family and friends during this difficult time as well as to Vaughan Kimes Funeral Home for their assistance and support.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 17, 2025, at Vaughan Kimes Funeral Home with Pastors Tim Burch and Tim Craddock officiating. Services will conclude with interment in New England Cemetery. His family will receive friends 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, and 11 a.m. to service time Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor are requested to the Lubeck Volunteer Fire Department, 1340 Harris Hwy, Parkersburg, WV 26101.
