Edith “Peg” Somerville Parker Griffith, 92, of Parkersburg, WV, entered eternal rest on Jan. 5, 2025, peacefully at her home. She was born in Slate, WV, on June 17, 1932, the daughter of the late David M. and Isa James Somerville.

She was a 1949 graduate of Parkersburg High School and a 1984 graduate of Glenville State University. She retired with more than 30 years of service with the Internal Revenue Service and continued to work during tax season for several years at Jackson Hewitt.

She married Joe Parker in 1955 and was by his side until his death in 1980. In 1996, She married Donald Griffith who passed away in 2016.

She will be most remembered in the community by her tireless volunteer hours and how she loved to educate and share her knowledge with younger people. She was full of spunk and had a great sense of humor, always joking, even in her final days. She was an avid WVU, Cincinnati Reds and Bengals fan often taking carloads of kids to the games. She loved to take walks, bake, travel, read and write poetry, study history, work crossword puzzles with family, and sew. She will forever be remembered for the many handmade quilts she generously gave as gifts over the years. She was a very proud lifelong democrat with a strong belief that everyone should have the same opportunities. Her family meant everything to her she enjoyed any gathering with them and supported them in everything they did. Her knowledge, generosity, humor, and creativity will be forever missed by so many.

Left to cherish her memory is her two daughters Linda Roberts (Dave Wildman) and Susan Fought (Kim) of Davisville, WV, Grandchildren JR Louden(Maria), Kimberly Horner (Pat), Ali Morris and Joey Morris, Great Grandchildren, Chloe Horner, Ryley Louden, Matthew Horner, LJ Horner, and Cooper Louden, Sister In Law Cisley Somerville, Several nieces and nephews including her quilting and volunteer sidekick Cheri Parker, bonus family Diane Bennett, Missy Ross, Jeremy Bennett, and Julie Robinson.

In addition to her parents and husbands she is proceeded in death by her siblings, Dick Somerville, Dave Somerville, and Sallie Parker Sams, her bonus son Jerry Bennett, and great grandson Gannon Louden.

Her body was donated to WVU Human Gift Registry. Memorial contributions can be made to Old Man Rivers, or any charity of your choice.

A celebration of life will be held at a later time.
