James F. York

James F. York, 86, of Belpre, OH, died Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at his residence. He was born in Huntington, WV, a son of the late Randolph M. and Helen (Farnsworth) York.

He received his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University in 1961, a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from Ohio University in 1968, and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Ohio University in 2023. He retired from General Electric Plastics in 1999. After his retirement he became an instructor at the Washington County Career Center. He became a professor with Washington State College of Ohio in 2007.

He was a member of Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International; The Celebration Center of Belpre; The Gideons International; the American Chemical Society; he was recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Publication Board in Science and Engineering. He held at least four patents.

He was a private pilot and enjoyed flying. He also enjoyed boating, biking, travel, photography, nature and cooking. He loved the Lord and loved his family.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years Evelyn (Anderson) York; two sons David York of Braintree, MA and Robert York (Mary Beth) of Queensbury, NY; also, Tammy Meek, who was like a daughter to him; three granddaughters Sara York, Lindsey Thilges-York (Andrew) and Abigail York; and three great granddaughters Macie, Anneliese, and Mariana.

Private services will be held at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
