Martha Lee Sams

Martha Lee Sams, 80, of Arvilla, WV, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2024, at CAMC in Charleston, WV. She was born in Lancaster, Ohio, a daughter of the late William E. and Sarah E. (Messbarger) Mees.

She was a homemaker and worked as a C&P Telephone Operator and was a school cook for Pleasants County. She was a member of St. Marys United Methodist Church. She was an avid bowler and softball player. She was Miss Ohio Valley Softball in the 1960s.

She is survived by two sons Tom Sams (Jennifer) of Cutler, Ohio, and Bill Sams (Jessica) of Parkersburg; four grandchildren Bethany, Mason, Wyatt, and Brody Sams; and three sisters Connie Smith, Billie Doss, and Kay Lonas.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Harry Sams, sister Sue Ellen Guinn, and brother-in-law Terry Smith.

Services will be Monday 1 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Reverend Jim Kelly officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery North. Visitation will be Sunday 2-5 p.m. and Monday one hour prior to the service.
