Stephanie (“Stevi”) Broida Swire
Stephanie (“Stevi”) Broida Swire, age 88, passed away on May 18, 2021. She was preceded in death in June, 2020 by William H. Swire, her husband of 64 years.
Stevi was born in Parkersburg, and graduated from Parkersburg High School, Sarah Lawrence College, and Tobe-Coburn School for Fashion Careers. She was the daughter of Harriet and Paul Broida, the long-time proprietors of the J.S. Broida Clothing Store in Parkersburg. Her aunt, Madeline Broida Cohen, was proprietor of the J.S. Broida Clothing Store in Clarksburg.
Stevi moved to Albany, N.Y. in 1955, where she hosted the “Stevi Swire Show” on WQBK-AM radio for thirteen years. She was a member of many boards including League of Woman Voters, National Council of Jewish Women, Capital Repertory Theatre, Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood, Equinox, CURE, and Albany Mental Health Board.
She is survived by her children Peter (Annie Anton), Andrew (Wendy Sherwin) and Amy Meyer (Doug Kornich) and six grandsons, Nathan (Cynthia Akagbosu), Jesse, Samuel, and Matthew Swire and Alexander and Nicholas Meyer.
Interment was in Albany. Contributions in her name may be made to Planned Parenthood or the ACLU.
