Gene was born December 8, 1934 in Belpre, Ohio to the late Lester and Iris Lemley.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Jean Lemley and brothers, Max and Bob Lemley.

Gene graduated from Belpre High School in 1952 and was a pole vaulter on the track team which won the 1952 track and field state championship. He began his career as a retail milkman and was promoted to Plant Manager of the Broughton Dairy Plant in Paden City, WV and was later transferred to Lexington, KY as a Retail Route Supervisor. Returning to Ohio in the early 1960s, he joined the Dupont Washington Works. Gene was an employee of DuPont for 38 years. In 1970 he was sent to Fayetteville, NC from the Washington Works to help set up the Butacite lab at the Fayetteville Works. At that plant’s start up, he was named lab supervisor. He was also part of a work team sent to set up a new lab facility in Germany during the 1980s. He often traveled back to the Washington Works for meetings. While there he was able to visit with family and friends in the Belpre, OH area.

Music was always a part of those visits. He enjoyed listening to and making music. Next to family, music was his greatest joy.
