Rev. L. Norman Butler

Reverend L. Norman Butler, 92, of Vienna, died Jan. 7, 2021, at the Camden Clark Medical Center, Parkersburg, WV. He was born on March 8, 1928, in Monongalia County, WV and was the son of the late Lester Franklin and Stella Riley Butler.

Reverend Butler served as a U.S. Navy veteran from 1953-55 and then began his ministry with his first charge in Harrisonburg, VA. He then took a charge of 5 churches in Bilington, WV followed by Georgetown, OH, Nitro, WV and then served thirteen years in Parkersburg, WV. He continued at Diamond Street United Methodist Church in Fairmont, WV for five years and finished with 10 years in Paden City, WV before retiring. After his retirement in 1993 he attended St. John’s United Methodist Church in Vienna, WV and continued his ministry to many people in the community as a retired pastor.

Rev. Butler is survived two children, Karen Hathaway and her good friend Chuck Tennant of Parkersburg, Phillip Butler and his wife Carol of Lubeck; four grandchildren, Charles Nickell, Jr. Jeremy Hathaway and wife Michelle, Amanda Cramlet and husband Mike, Andrew Butler; thirteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; ex-son-in-law Jeff Hathaway; one sister, Ida Judge of PA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death his wife Virginia Sharp Butler; three sister, Blanche Stalnaker, Margaret Hohenstien and Evelyn Tenney.

Private Services will be at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Reverend Bob Alfred officiating.

Public Visitation will be Wednesday, January 13th 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg, WV and Friday, January 15th from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home in Elkins, WV.

Graveside Services will be Friday 2 p.m. at Valley Head Cemetery, Valley Head, WV.
