Carl “Chick” Crites

Carl “Chick” Crites, 73, of Mineral Wells, passed away November 19, 2020, at Camden Clark Medical Center. He had battled Myasthenia Gravis for several years and was recently diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer.

Chick was born July 20, 1947, in Parkersburg, WV, to Jessie Starcher and Ulon C. Crites.

He graduated from Parkersburg High School with the largest graduated class 1965. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served our country in the Viet Nam War where he received a Purple Heart. Chick was very Proud to be a Marine. Semper fidelis.

On January 4, 1970, Chick married Donna Thevenir. They enjoyed over 50 years together in marriage. In addition to his wife Donna, he is survived by his son Aaron A. Crites and loving daughter in law Cheryl; sisters Martha Buckley (Jack), Cheryl “Shug” Stone (Tom), Garnet Leone (Roland), Edith Forshey (Bob) and Ula “Julie” Starcher, brothers Clell Starcher and Blaine Crites, sisters Peggy Crites, Shelby Crites, Pam Lovell, Drema Starkey and brother Rodney Crites and Larry Fleming, his best friend.

Chick retired from UPS after 27 years driving package truck. He made many friends from his time there. Early in his life, Chick was involved with horses where he met his wife Donna and has many good horse friends. In his later years with his bad health, he still enjoyed feeding and watching his birds and treating his dogs with pig skins (pork rinds).

He was a member of Mt. Zion Church of Mineral Wells where he was an usher. He loved providing items for the Shoe Box mission every year. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and lifetime member of DAV #32 where his passion was providing food for the food pantry. He was a lifetime member of the Marine Corps League. He was active in Sgt. Bob O’Malley Marine League 1436 and also a member of Mid Ohio Valley Platoon Marine Corps Veteran Association of OH & WV. He will be missed by many but mostly his wife and son.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 24, 2020, at the Leavitt Funeral Home Parkersburg. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Mineral Wells, with military honors.
