Joseph Jankauskas

Joseph “Joe” Jankauskas, age 50, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, February 12, at Virginia Hospital Center. He was born October 3, 1969, in New Brunswick, NJ to Gerard and Lydia (Keating) Jankauskas.

Joe grew up in Epson, NH and was a 1988 graduate of Pembroke Academy. He served 10 years in the United States Army, as an infantryman in the 2nd Ranger Battalion, the 14th Military Intelligence Battalion, the 6th Ranger Training Brigade and the 10th Mountain Division. He was Airborne and Ranger qualified and served in several leadership positions in combat units earning numerous awards and medals.

Following his military service, Joe graduated Summa Cum Laude from Framingham State University with a B.S. in Computer Science. He was the recipient of the Outstanding Graduating Senior Computer Science Award. He subsequently went to work with the Bureau of the Fiscal Service ultimately rising to the position of Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Infrastructure and Operations. Joe moved to the U.S. Mint on a detail in December 2018 to serve as Interim CIO. In June of last year, Joe was appointed to the position of Associate Director for IT/CIO at the U.S. Mint.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Catherine Jannette Roy Jankauskas, daughters Lauren and Hannah, son Joshua, and two grandchildren Jayce and Jaymie; his mother, Lydia and step-father George Garneau, sister, Teresa “Terri” (Rodman) Booker, all of NH; brothers, Gerard “Gerry” (Tina), of MA and James “Jim” (Andrea), of VT; his in-laws, Peter and Teresa Roy; brother-in-law, Fred (Dawn) all of NH; as well as, numerous, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerard.

Joe was a member of Porterfield Baptist Church. He enjoyed watching the Patriots, Red Sox, his children’s golf matches and loved his job at the U.S. Mint.

A memorial service honoring Joe’s life will be held on Saturday, March 7, 11:00 at the Porterfield Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Eaton officiating. A second memorial service will be held in New Hampshire this summer and interment will follow at Arlington National Cemetery later this year.
