Earl Raymond Lucas

Earl Raymond Lucas, 79, of Parkersburg, WV, passed away Jan. 8, 2019, in Marietta Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness.

He was born March 12, 1939, in Branchland, WV, a son of the late Elba and Lola (Vannatter) Lucas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Howard Lucas, Alfred Lucas, Kenneth Lucas, Norma Seay, Ida Mae Turley and an infant sister, Imogene.

Earl retired from Wood County Schools with 18 years of service where he served as the Assistant Principal at Mineral Wells Elementary and then Principal at McKinley Elementary School. He was a member of the South Parkersburg Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and taught the Good Samaritan Sunday school class. He was also a member of the Teachers Association, Retired Teachers Association and briefly with the Lions Club. Earl enjoyed Marshall Football and Basketball, birdwatching, gardening, participating in activities with the church and loved his dogs.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Joan Lucas; daughter Lara Lucas; sons Christopher Lucas and his wife Jenny Rodriguez, Todd Lucas and his wife Marcie; siblings Alma Workman and her husband Arg, Thelma Vass, Opal Holman and her husband James; grandchildren Amanda Lucas, Caeden Lucas and Cooper Lucas.

Service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at the South Parkersburg Baptist Church, with Pastor Adam Paff officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, also at the church.
