Curtis “Luke” Layfield, 79, of Elizabeth, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Aug. 4, 2017, at Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg, W.Va.
He was born Jan. 5, 1938, the son of the late J. Everett and Mildred (Kerns) Layfield. He was a member of the Pine Twist Baptist Church. He retired from E.I. DuPont in 1993 with 36 years of service. He loved farming, hunting and camping. He also enjoyed watching football and basketball and was an avid Wirt County Tiger and WVU Mountaineer fan.
He is survived by daughters, Patsy (Randy) McClung and Tracy Layfield of Elizabeth; one son, Jeff (Toni) Layfield of Pine Twist; one daughter-in-law, Sally Layfield of Vienna; and two grandchildren, Matthew (Mary-Micheal) McClung and Reagan Layfield of Vienna. He is also survived by a brother, Roydice Layfield of Cairo; and two sisters, Carolyn Boston of Petroleum and Lucille (Jed) Williams of Harrisville. He will be sadly missed by his family and his pets, Bell and Hunter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Bell) Layfield in 2009; and a son, Scott Layfield in 2013.
The family would like to thank his caregiver, Carol Bottenfield, for their and care and compassion for their dad and grandpa during his illness.
Visitation will be Monday, Aug. 7, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral service. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017, at Matheny-Whited Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Layfield officiating. Burial will be at the Pine Twist Cemetery.
