Wood Sheriff
PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports from March 7-13:
* During that period, deputies responded/answered 366 calls, including: 75 traffic stops; 54 speak with complainant by phone or in person; 23 domestic calls/domestic violence protective orders served; 17 traffic crashes; five mental hygiene order/pick up/transport; six suspicious person/vehicle; eight residence/business/area check; 12 disorderly driver/subject; seven warrant service/warrant attempt; 10 intrusion alarm; 10 assist motorist/assist agency; eight check welfare/check subject; and five animal complaints.
March 7
* A traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle after observing it swaying left of the roadway on multiple occasions. A local check showed a Capias for the passenger. Anthony Charles Smith, 40, of George Street, was arrested on the Capias for failure to appear for charges of shoplifting issued through Wood County Circuit Court. He was transported to the Holding Center for processing and placed awaiting his arraignment.
* A traffic stop was conducted after observing the vehicle appearing to be traveling at a speed greater than the posted 65 mph limit (radar confirmed) on Robert Byrd Highway. A citation was issued to Mark Stephen Clendenin Jr., 29, of City View Drive, for speeding (94 in a 65 mph zone) and no insurance.
* A citation was issued to Jared Evan Towner, 46, of Wells Lock Road, Elizabeth, for speeding (49 in a 40 mph zone).
* A citation was issued to Haley Marie Stoneking, 35, of 32nd Street, for violation of a red light.
* A deputy responded to Magistrate Court in reference to a subject turning themselves in on a warrant. Jadyn Francesca Placchetti, 25, of 19th Street, Vienna, was arrested on the warrant, processed at the Holding Center and arraigned before a magistrate.
* A citation was issued to Michael Dillon Siers, 25, of Big Run Road, Cairo, for no operators.
* A traffic stop was conducted in the area of East Seventh Street and Core Road after observing the vehicle having no inspection sticker. A citation was issued to Timothy Curtis Nay, 56, of Hugh Street, for driving on suspended/revoked and no proof of insurance.
* A deputy responded to Robert Byrd exit ramp westbound at Seventh Street in reference to a motor vehicle crash. Driver one stated he was stopped at the bottom of the exit ramp due to traffic and vehicle two did not get stopped in time striking vehicle one. Minor damage to vehicle one with the rear plastic bumper cover damaged, vehicle two showed minor damage to the front plastic bumper cover. No crash report taken and drivers exchanged information.
March 8
* A traffic stop was conducted after the vehicle was observed to be operating with no headlights and a defective passenger side brake light. A local check showed the driver to be suspended and the registration to be expired. A citation was issued to Cameron James Cowan, 33, of Lake Road, Belpre, for driving on suspended/revoked and expired registration.
* A citation was issued to William L. Rhyne, 49, of Stillwell Road, for driving on suspended/revoked and no insurance.
* A citation was issued to Jeremy Matthew Webb, 37, of Champion School Road, for expired registration and no proof of insurance.
* A deputy spoke with the complainant/victim in reference to where her ex-boyfriend had utilized her cell phone to make an unauthorized transfer from her Cash App account. A report was taken and a criminal complaint was signed by a magistrate. Deputies then responded to 29th Street to serve the warrant. Robert Nevonicus Aguilar, 29, of 29th Street, was arrested on the warrant for fraud in connection to an access device. He was transported to the Holding Center for processing and placed to await arraignment.
March 9
* A citation was issued to Daniel Lee Lynch, 30, of 36th Street, for expired registration. Upon a review for history he had been in a previous traffic stop where he had been given a verbal warning on the expired registration.
* A deputy while observing traffic and park activities in Mountwood Park noted a vehicle traveling toward the deputy at a speed greater than the posted 25 mph (radar confirmed). A traffic stop was made and a citation was issued to the 17-year-old female of Spider Ridge Road for speeding (39 in a 25 mph zone).
* On Staunton Turnpike east of U.S. 50, a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle after not observing a WV MVI sticker. A citation was issued to Jason DeWayne Morris, 39, of Buckingham Road, Belleville, for no operators and no insurance. He was given a verbal warning for improper registration and defective windshield. The vehicle was towed.
* A deputy responded to Carpenters Run Road in Waverly in reference to a vehicle crash. The driver stated she was traveling westbound towards Emerson Avenue when she reached into her pocket and crashed. The deputy observed where the vehicle had run off the right side of the road, struck a large rock on the embankment, overturned leftward and came to a rest on the driver side of the highway. Minor injuries and she refused treatment or transport. Crash report taken and the vehicle was towed.
* A deputy while observing traffic on I-77 at the 178 mm southbound noted a vehicle appearing to be traveling at speeds greater than the posted 70 mph limit (radar confirmed). Emergency lights were activated and a traffic stop was conducted. A citation was issued to Jonah Ray Spears, 19, of Parkersburg Road, Spencer, for speeding (90 in a 70 mph zone). He was also given a verbal warning for expired registration.
* A deputy while observing traffic on I-77 at mm 178 noted a vehicle traveling much greater than the posted 70 mph limit (radar confirmed). Emergency lights were activated and a traffic stop was conducted. A citation was issued to Joseph K. Horrigan, 59, of Medina, Ohio, for speeding (88 in a 70 mph zone).
* A citation was issued to Ryan Andrew Dinger, 20, of Amsterdam, Ohio, for speeding (87 in a 70 mph zone).
March 10
* A traffic stop was conducted on U.S. 50 and a citation was issued to Melissa Dawn McMahan, 46, of 36th Street, for speeding (75 in a 55 mph zone) and expired registration.
* A traffic stop was conducted on East Seventh Street after observing a broken driver side headlight. The driver stated his license was suspended (verified) and no insurance on the vehicle. A local check also showed one of the passengers having a Capias on file. A citation was issued to Jeremy Scott Adams, 50, of 20th Street, for driving on suspended/revoked and no insurance. The passenger, Caitlyn Denee Tallman, 36, of Dutch Ridge Road, was arrested on the Capias for failure to appear on charges of DUI, possession of a controlled substance, battery of health care worker and obstructing. She was transported to the Holding Center for processing and placed. The vehicle was towed.
* A citation was issued to Michael Ray Battin, 67, of River Hill Road, for expired registration.
* A deputy responded to Miracle Lane in reference to a structure fire involving a barn. It had been reported to 911 that a subject had been burning brush and a barn caught fire. Upon arrival numerous apparatuses from Volunteer Fire Departments were on scene extinguishing a fire that had mostly consumed a structure (barn) belonging to the neighbor’s property of 251 Miracle Lane. The male stated he was using a handheld propane torch to light fire to the grass/brush that grows underneath the fence between 187 and 251 so he could control the growth of grass, the fire spread to the property of 251 causing fire to damage the barn used as storage belonging to the neighbor. WV DNR Natural Resource Police along with WV Division of Forestry arrived informing the deputy that they would be further investigating the fire.
* A citation was issued to Cassandra Nichole Crawford, 37, of Fairview Avenue, for speeding (89 in a 70 mph zone).
* A citation was issued to a 17-year-old female of Lincolnshire Drive for speeding (88 in a 70 mph zone).
* A vehicle crash occurred on I-77 at mm 161. The vehicle was northbound on I-77 when the driver ran off the right side of the road and sideswiped the guardrail. The vehicle continued off the road and ran into the ditch line partially up the embankment before coming to a stop in the ditch, the driver stated he fell asleep.
* A deputy responded to Magistrate Court in reference to a subject turning himself in on a warrant. Joseph Trey Nicholson, 41, of Plum Street, was arrested on the warrant for destruction of property. He was processed, arraigned and released on a personal recognizance bond.
* Deputies responded to Belleville Drive for a domestic in progress. The male had called 911 advising a female was refusing to leave the residence. A local check of the female was showing a warrant on file. Upon contact with the female the warrant was confirmed and Virginia Lorea Jenkins, 50, of Longwell Road, was arrested on the warrant for a charge of violation of a domestic violence protective order. She was processed at the Holding Center and placed pending her arraignment.
* A deputy while monitoring traffic from the median of I-77 at mm 182.5 facing south observed a vehicle traveling southbound towards his position at a high rate of speed appearing to be greater than the posted 70 mph limit (radar confirmed). Upon the deputy exiting the median to pursue the vehicle it immediately yielded to the shoulder at mm 182. A citation was issued to Bailey James Campbell, 22, of State Route 550, Marietta, for speeding (88 in a 70 mph zone) and expired operators.
* A deputy while observing traffic near the 100 block of Gihon Road observed a vehicle approaching him at a much greater rate of speed than the posted 35 mph zone. A traffic stop was conducted and upon contact he was very hesitant while speaking with the deputy. The driver when asked if any illegal drugs were inside the vehicle at first stated no and then handed the deputy a zip bag containing illegal substances. The driver then stated “I have a gun” and began to reach for it, at this time commands from the deputy were given to the driver to keep his hands visible and he was held until other deputies arrived. A search of the vehicle located suspected methamphetamine, suspected fentanyl and a handgun. Eric Leon Parkins, 44, of Steven Street, was arrested on charges of possession with intent methamphetamine, possession with intent fentanyl and prohibited person possessing firearm. He was transported and processed at the Holding Center and brought before a magistrate where he was unable to post bond and confined back into the Holding Center.
