Wood Sheriff

PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports:

Jan. 24

* Vehicle crash on Interstate 77 S at milemarker 180 where the vehicle was observed over embankment just south of the Emerson overpass. The driver stated he was not injured, he was merging from Emerson Avenue onto I-77 when he lost control of the vehicle and went off the right side of the roadway. A wrecker responded and towed the vehicle.

* Abby Lynn Craft, 32, of Liberty Street, turned herself in on a warrant issued through the Wood County Sheriff Office on a charge of destruction of property. She was processed, arraigned and released on a $1,000 personal recognizance bond.

* Citation issued to John Paul Cox, 41, of Staunton Turnpike, for no insurance.

Jan. 25

* Traffic stop conducted after the vehicle was observed with an expired inspection sticker (2012). A local check of the driver showed a Capias on file. Gerald Christopher Piggott, 42, of Putnam Street, was arrested on the Capias for failure to appear as he did not appear a warrant for charges of driving on suspended/revoked.

* Staunton Turnpike vehicle crash involving a deer. The vehicle had been traveling east on Staunton Turnpike when a deer entered the roadway striking the driver side front, driver side headlight and fender causing the driver door to be jammed. Vehicle was driven from the scene.

* Hoagland Run Road and Emerson Avenue vehicle crash involving a deer. The vehicle sustained a small dent on the front passenger side fender and a small dent at the bottom of the passenger door area. A Waverly Volunteer firefighter stopped to help after the crash and moved the deer from the roadway. The vehicle was driven from the scene.

* Traffic stop conducted after observing the vehicle with an expired registration (5/2024). A citation was issued to Sasha Nicole Fordyce, 35, of Hickory Heights Road, Mineral Wells, for expired registration and no proof of insurance.

* Citation issued to Mary Dana Starkey, 66, of State Route 7, Newport, for fail to obey traffic signal (red light).

* A traffic stop was conducted on vehicle and upon approaching the vehicle made contact with the female driver asking for her registration and insurance. The deputy then went back to his cruiser to check for locals and observed two of the occupants in a physical altercation in the vehicle. Rachel Nedeff Brooks, 45, of Lynn Street, was arrested on charges of domestic battery and obstructing. She was transported to the Holding Center for processing and was found to need medical clearance. She was transported to Camden Clark Medical Center for medical clearance where she became irate sticking her hand in a nurse’s face. She was medically cleared and transported back to the Holding Center and placed.

* Deputies responded to Little Kanawha River Road in reference to a warrant service. Scott Robert Hickman, 51, of Little Kanawha River Road, was arrested on the warrant for domestic battery issued through the Wood County Sheriff Office from an incident that had occurred on Jan. 21. He was transported to the Holding Center for processing, arraigned before a magistrate where he was also served with a domestic violence protective order and released on bond.

Jan. 26

* Traffic stop conducted after the vehicle had proceeded through a red light at Pike Street. Citation was issued to Nathan Brent Wagner, 26, of Mathoit Street, for running red light and expired registration.

* Deputies responded to Pike Street in reference to a domestic in progress and upon the deputy arriving she advised over the radio that she could hear screaming and yelling coming from the lot number. Both the male and female stated that it was verbal only and that they would separate in the house. Both were advised on how to obtain domestic violence protective orders.

* Traffic stop conducted for a defective passenger side brake light. Citation issued to Joseph Lee Bennett, 61, of Pleasant Ridge Road, Marietta, for driving on suspended/revoked.

* A traffic stop was conducted after the vehicle had passed not appearing to be displaying a registration plate. Upon contact with the drive he stated his license was suspended (a local check verified this) also a warrant was located on file. David Michael Carr, 36, of Hemlock Street, Elizabeth, was arrested on charges of driving on suspended/revoked and no proof of insurance. The warrant was for driving on suspended/revoked and no proof of insurance issued through the Vienna Police Department. He was transported to the Holding Center for processing, arraigned before a magistrate and released on bond.

* Deputies responded to Hill Street in reference to a structure fire with one known entrapment. The caller to the 911 Center reported the front porch of the residence was completely engulfed in flames with the neighbors being unable to enter the residence due to the heavy smoke and flames to get the disabled female help. Deputies arrived and had gone around the perimeter of the house observing the entire residence to be filled with smoke and flames not being able to enter. A neighbor contacted a family member of the female advising her to respond. Eastwood Volunteer Fire Department, Waverly VFD, Mineral Wells VFD, Vienna VFD, Camden Clark Ambulance Service, West Virginia State Fire Marshal, Fire Investigation Team, Hope Gas, and Mon Power along with Wood County Sheriff units were on scene. At this time investigation is ongoing with the state fire Marshal.

* Traffic stop conducted on Ashby Ridge Road after the driver was observed to be not wearing a seatbelt. Citations were issued to Anna L. Corbin, 41, of 36th Street, for second-offense driving on suspended/revoked, no insurance, improper registration and no seatbelt.

* Deputies responded to Maple Shades Court in reference to a domestic disturbance, upon arrival the complainant stated that the problem party had ran out the back door. The male was located sitting on the steps. The complainant stated she had been beaten however no signs were evident of the complainant being beaten. The male left the residence and the complainant was advised on how to obtain a domestic violence protective order.
