Wood Sheriff
PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports on Jan. 10:
* For the period from Jan. 1-8, deputies responded to or answered 355 calls, including: 20 traffic stops; 46 speak with complainant by phone or in person; 27 domestic calls/domestic violence protective orders served; 38 traffic crashes; eight mental hygiene order/pick up/transport; 11 suspicious person/vehicle; 13 residence/business/area check; nine disorderly driver/subject; 13 intrusion alarm; 31 assist motorist/assist agency; four check welfare/check subject; and nine animal complaints.
Jan. 1
* Deputies responded to the Omelette Shoppe located on East Seventh Street in reference to a fight in progress inside the business. Upon speaking to a witness they stated the male who had been struck was inside a van sitting in the parking lot. The male had a cut and bruise to the temple area and stated he was not struck but had fallen down a ramped entrance of a bar that he had left earlier. A local check of the male, Antonio Ricardo Foster, 42, of W. Crest Drive, Cincinnati, Ohio, was showing a NCIC hit out of Meigs County Ohio for charges of possession of methamphetamine and trafficking in methamphetamine. He was arrested for Fugitive from Justice and transported to the Holding Center for processing and placed.
* A Deputy came upon a vehicle crash involving a deer on Robert Byrd Highway. The deer was observed deceased near the impact point with part of the underpinning of the vehicle laying in the road. The vehicle sustained front end damage however was able to be driven from the scene.
* Deputies responded to a two-vehicle head-on collision involving a Dodge Ram and a Honda Insight. The driver of the Honda Insight was entrapped and was being assisted by Fire and EMS personnel. Both drivers were transported for treatment and an investigation is ongoing at this time.
* A Deputy responded to Pike Street in Mineral Wells in reference to a burglary in progress. A neighbor stated the owner had called him to check the residence as he was not home and observed on his Ring camera someone in his residence. Upon the owner arriving he observed his Xbox and a pair of Turtle Back Headphones missing. At this time investigation is ongoing.
* Deputies responded to a vehicle crash at Williamstown Pike and Aviation Drive with vehicle fully engulfed in flames under the I-77 underpass. The Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the flames. The driver had been transported to Camden Clark Medical Center for injuries. The vehicle had been traveling northbound on I-77 prior to losing control due to snow/ice as well as speeds too great for the conditions of the roadway. The vehicle appeared to slide sideways, as indicated by the tracks in the snow before striking the guardrail at a broadside angle, the vehicle than began to roll multiple times along the top of the bridge before striking the southbound bridge wall and guardrail. The vehicle appeared to roll along the top of the bridge before falling onto Williamstown Pike and catching fire, at some point during the vehicle rolling the male driver had been ejected from the vehicle. A crash report will be completed.
* Deputies responded to a vehicle crash on I-77 northbound at mm 184. The driver and passenger were checked by EMS as a precaution with both refusing transport. It appears that the driver was traveling northbound on I-77 when he lost control of the Ram 2500 due to the ice and snow as well as inappropriate speeds for the given conditions. The vehicle exited the right side of the roadway, struck the embankment at an angle, rolled into the embankment then settled in the ditch facing southbound. The vehicle sustained damage along the driver side front driver area and top. Side curtain airbags were deployed. The vehicle was towed and a crash report taken.
Jan. 2
* Deputies responded to a Harris Highway vehicle crash involving a deer. The driver stated while traveling north on Harris Highway a deer entered the roadway from the right side of the roadway where the collision ensued between the front end of the vehicle and the deer. The vehicle sustained damage to the front driver side of the vehicle around the driver side headlight area. The vehicle was driven from the scene.
* A citation was issued to Tony Edward Pierce Jr., 36, of Louise Avenue, West Union, for expired MVI.
* A citation was issued to Earl James Gordon, 47, of George Street, for Improper use of turn only lane and proof of insurance.
Jan. 3
* Deputies responded to Emerson Avenue and I-77 for a single vehicle crash. The driver stated that he was traveling south on Emerson Avenue and attempted to turn right onto the southbound entrance ramp to I-77, he lost control of the vehicle where it ran off the right side of the roadway striking a “Yield Sign” causing minor damage to the posts. The vehicle sustained minor damage to the driver door area. The vehicle was pulled out by a friend and driven from the scene.
* Deputies responded to Staunton Turnpike where a vehicle had slid off the right side of the roadway into the ditch striking a culvert, damage to the front passenger corner and wheel area. Crash report taken.
* Deputies responded to I-77 mm 179 northbound where a vehicle was in the median with the driver stating that she was northbound losing control coming out of a right curve. Once in the median she was unable to regain control of the vehicle and became stuck in the mud. The vehicle was towed from the median and driven away.
* Deputies responded to Burnthouse Road in reference to a domestic altercation (between mother and juvenile son). The juvenile male was taken to a detention center for temporary placement until a detention hearing could be scheduled.
Jan. 4
* Deputies responded to the intersection of Eighth and Avery streets for a traffic stop after the vehicle was observed be turning left being prohibited as this is a one way road. The vehicle was also observed after making the improper turn driving with the front and rear passenger side wheels on the sidewalk. A traffic stop was conducted with contact being made with the driver and passenger. Upon speaking with the driver the odor of an alcoholic beverage was emitting from his person. Terry Lee Clark, 58, of Wyndham Knob, was arrested on a charge of DUI. He was transported to the Holding Center for processing and placed pending his arraignment.
* Deputies responded to Staunton Turnpike concerning a larceny of a lawn mower style utility trailer stolen between Jan. 3 and Jan. 4. Tracks were located around the shop leading to the spot the utility trailer was taken along with footprints nearby.
* A Deputy responded to the Go Mart on Woodberry Lane regarding a found trailer on the property. The VIN number was verified by the owner and he retrieved the trailer. Investigation is pending.
* Deputies responded to Red Peak Circle reference to a domestic incident. The male stated that he and his girlfriend had gotten into a verbal altercation which turned physical. Michelle Renee Wright, 58, of Red Peak Circle, was arrested on a charge of domestic battery. She was transported to the Holding Center for processing and placed pending her arraignment.
* Deputies responded to Williams Highway in reference to a vehicle crash involving a deer. The driver stated that he was traveling southbound when the deer was struck, he stopped his vehicle in the parking lot where it was disabled. No injuries reported.
Jan. 5
* Deputies responded to a Staunton Turnpike vehicle crash. The driver stated he was traveling westbound when he began to drift off the roadway, he over corrected causing him to veer left and strike the guardrail. He entered the roadway again and ran off the roadway to the right coming to rest in the ditch line. Family members arrived and towed the vehicle from the scene. Crash report taken.
* Deputies responded to Robert Byrd Highway and Fort Boreman Drive. The driver stated they were stopped at a red light on U.S. 50 and when the light turned green they began to turn left into the intersection to head eastbound on Blennerhassett Heights when a silver Jeep ran the red light and collided with them. The Jeep stalled out and started back up again and fled the scene. Another Deputy had the Jeep stopped on Star Avenue with the driver admitting to being involved in the crash. The driver of the Chevy Cobalt was transported by EMS. Brandon Paul Hayes, 35, of Seventh Street was arrested on charges of driving on suspended/revoked, improper registration, leaving the scene with injuries and no insurance. He was transported to the Holding Center for processing and placed pending his arraignment.
Jan. 6
* Deputies responded to Orchard Avenue in reference to a domestic altercation in progress. The male had left prior upon 911 being called. He was located near College Parkway. The female victim had a bump/laceration on her head near her ear. Jeremy Randall Adkins, 51, of Orchard Avenue, was arrested on a charge of domestic battery and also a Capias on file for a charge of possession of a controlled substance with a valid prescription. He was transported to the Holding Center for processing and placed pending his arraignment.
* Deputies responded to I-77 at the 184 mm for a vehicle in the median, no damage and the driver had already requested a wrecker who had arrived and pulled the vehicle back onto the roadway.
* Deputies responded to I-77 NB rest area for a semi in the median. The driver stated he was attempting to pass a vehicle in front of him by moving into the left lane, the semi tire became stuck in the snow causing it to veer into the median. A wrecker was able to get the semi back onto the road.
* A traffic stop was conducted and citation issued to Dakota Wayne McCune, 22, of Spring Street, for driving on suspended/revoked and reckless driving.
* Deputies responded to Frontage Road in reference to a road rage incident. The driver stated that he had gotten into an argument with another driver about how close the caller’s truck was to his. Upon speaking with the male the odor of alcoholic beverage was emitting from his breath. A citation was issued to Jason Kelly Dover, 54, of Alpharetta, Ga., for public intoxication.
