Wood County Sheriff
PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports:
* From Jan. 9-15, deputies responded/answered 280 calls, including: 24 traffic stops; 32 speak with complainant by phone or in person; 15 domestic calls/domestic violence protective orders served; 18 traffic crashes; five mental hygiene order/pick up/transport; 11 suspicious person/vehicle; 11 residence/business/area check; 10 disorderly driver/subject; two warrant service/warrant attempt; 12 intrusion alarm; 12 assist motorist/assist agency; seven check welfare/check subject; and 10 animal complaints.
January 9
* Deputies responded to Gihon Road/South Street in reference to a domestic situation. The male was located and gave his name and date of birth with a local check showing a NCIC hit out of Ohio for parole violation for burglary and breaking and entering. Upon speaking with the female she reported that he had choked her. Darren Michael Mallett, 26, of Grafton Street, was arrested on charges of Fugitive from Justice as he was wanted out of Ohio and current charges of strangulation. He was transported to the Holding Center for processing taken before a magistrate where he was given a $10,000.00 bond for strangulation and placed back into the Holding Center pending going before a circuit court judge.
* Deputies responded to a Williams Highway vehicle crash. The driver of the F-150 stated he was traveling north on Williams Highway when the vehicle in front of him stopped and he did not observe this in time and rear ended the vehicle. No injuries reported and a crash report taken.
January 10
* Deputies responded to Emerson Avenue at Willard Road in reference to a vehicle crash involving a deer. The vehicle was observed in the southbound lane with heavy front end damage with the deer located just north of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed.
* Deputies responded to Boaz Garden Drive in reference to a domestic that had already occurred, the complainant/victim stated that she had been dragged to the front door by her arms. Dustin Lyle Thompson, 39, of Williams Avenue, Williamstown, was arrested on charges of domestic battery. He was transported to the Holding Center for processing, arraigned before a magistrate and given a $1,500.00 surety bond. He was taken back to the Holding Center to await his bondsman. He was also serve with a domestic violence protective order which had been filed by the complainant/victim.
January 11
* Deputies responded to Wadesville Road/Locust Ridge Road for a vehicle over the hill. The driver stated he was driving westbound on Wadesville Road when his vehicle lost traction and went over the hillside, he was not injured. A wrecker pull the vehicle back on the roadway with damage observed to the passenger side bumper and front passenger door. Crash report taken.
* Deputies responded to Robert Byrd Highway and Red Hill Road for a two vehicle crash. Minimal damage to both vehicles and information was exchanged. No crash report taken.
* A deputy responded to the Go-Mart located in Williamstown in reference to a vehicle crash. The driver stated that it occurred near the 181 mm however due to the hazardous road conditions he drove to Go Mart for safety reasons. He stated that he was traveling north and had merged into the right lane as a vehicle was passing him it began to merge into his lane and was about to strike his vehicle causing him to steer to the right into the slush/snow and he began to lose control striking the guardrail causing minor paint damage to the rental vehicle. A crash report taken.
* A deputy responded in reference to providing a wrecker with traffic control while removing a vehicle from the ditch. The vehicle was a Ford F150 observed to be off the roadway right against a guardrail. The driver stated that he was traveling west when he lost control and exited the roadway where the truck came to a rest, he was not aware that it had caused damage to the guardrail and was unable to call for help due to his phone being dead. The registration was missing from the truck and upon checking a dog box in the truck Garmin dog tracking collars were also missing. A larceny report as well as a vehicle crash report was taken.
January 12
* Deputies responded to the 7-11 located on DuPont Road in reference to a male that was passed out in the back of the store. The male was located outside by the dumpster with EMS. The male began to walk away and was advised that he could not walk way as he was intoxicated. Joshua Jordan Lesher, 32, of West Reynolds Avenue, Belle, W.Va., was issued a citation for shoplifting as he had taken a can of Monster the Beast hard alcohol and a can of Super Sipz alcohol and public intoxication. His girlfriend arrived and he was taken by EMS for further treatment for a medical condition.
* Deputies responded to the intersection of Fries Parkway and Tonya Avenue in reference to a vehicle crash. The driver of the DOH vehicle stated he backed up into a telephone pole due to it being in his blind spot, the pole appeared to be damaged and leaning with minor damage to the rear of the DOH vehicle. Deputies stayed on scene until Mon Power arrived. A crash report was taken.
* A deputy responded to Mineral Spring Pub located on Elizabeth Pike in reference to a vehicle crash involving a deer. The driver stated she was southbound on Southern Highway near the Elizabeth Pike interchange when she struck a deer that had entered the roadway. The deer was not located and the vehicle sustained front end damage but was able to be driven from the scene.
January 13
* A deputy responded to Ryanwood Village in reference to a complaint of a vehicle theft. The complainant/victim reported that her 2005 Jeep Liberty had been taken from her residence while she was away. The vehicle has been entered into NCIC as a stolen vehicle and investigation ongoing upon obtaining video from the manager.
* A citation was issued to Nathan Scot Augenstein, 46, of Bailey Drive, Marietta, for speeding 79 in a 70 mph zone.
* Deputies responded to I-77 mm 180.8 for a single vehicle crash. It appears the driver was traveling south when he lost control and the vehicle exited the roadway coming to rest in the median facing southwest. A crash report was taken.
* A citation was issued to Lindsey Nicole Kupfner, 27, of Oak Street, for driving on suspended/revoked and improper approach to an emergency vehicle.
* A deputy responded to I-77 northbound near the 170 mm in reference to a person on a bicycle. The person was located and advised that she could not be on the interstate and it was a controlled access highway. A citation was issued to Whitney Sue Nelson, 36, of Hardy Hts. for controlled access on highway (bicycle). She was given a ride by the deputy to the Rt. 95 Park and Ride and her bicycle was transported by another deputy.
January 14
* Deputies responded to I-77 mm 177 for a southbound vehicle observed traveling much faster than the posted speed limit of 70 mph and was passing several tractor trailers traveling the posted speed limit. Radar showed speed at 93 mph and as the vehicle came into position of the deputy the vehicle slowed down. A traffic stop was initiated and a citation was issued to McShayne O’Bryan Riley, 22, of Third Street, Beverly, for speeding 89 in a 70 mph zone.
* Deputies responded to Blennerhassett Heights for a two vehicle crash. The driver stated that while traveling north on Blennerhassett Heights she observed a garbage truck to be in the roadway ahead of her vehicle, she advised she activated her hazard lights and began slowing down for the garbage truck and while doing so she was rear ended by another vehicle. Both drivers were checked by EMS, however neither driver was transported. One vehicle was towed the other was driven from the scene. A crash report was taken.
* Deputies responded to Smitherman Road and Lake Washington Road in reference to a two vehicle crash. Both vehicles were observed with front driver side damage, no injuries to anyone. A crash report was taken.
* A traffic stop was conducted and a citation was issued to Jessica Renee Barnhart, 44, of Wyndham Knob, for expired registration and expired MVI. She was also advised that she had been given a verbal warning from Vienna Police Department in July 2024 on the expired registration.
* A deputy responded to the area of the northbound rest area on I-77 in reference to a report of a vehicle going off the road and into the woods. The 911 call was a passing semi-truck driver stating you could see the vehicle lights in the woods. Upon the deputy arriving and passing the northbound rest area a gap was observed in the guardrail on the right side of the road which lead into a field. The field contained several inches of snow which showed clear vehicle tracks leading to the vehicle. Another deputy arrived and a female was observed in the driver seat with a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from her person. Tammy Renee Carter, 52, of Pleasants Colony Drive, Evans, W.Va., was arrested on charges of aggravated DUI, obstructing, no proof of insurance, second-offense DUI and failure to report. She was transported to the Holding Center for processing.
January 15
* Deputies responded to Staunton Turnpike and Wolfe Estate Lane in reference to a vehicle crash involving a deer. The driver stated she was traveling west on Staunton Turnpike when a deer entered the roadway and a collision ensued between the deer and the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was able to be driven from the scene.
* A citation was issued to Madison Renee Collins, 22, of Berkshire Ct., for expired registration (11/2023).
* A citation was issued to Caroline Jane Eyberg, 82, of Camden Avenue, for failure to stop at red light.
